MachinePolymerization Plant to include esterification.
DescriptionIncludes: Esterification Plant 460 metric tons per day capacity, instrumentation and controls updated to a Foxboro IA DCS system ~ 2000: Esterification is a 2 vessel process with a primary Esterifier Stainless Steel vessel with an internal coil and 2 external pumped heat exchanger loops with operating capacity from 110 mt/d up to 460 mt/d. It operates at 40 psig and there is a tray column for the off gas with the return to the process. It feeds a Secondary esterifier stainless steel vessel, which also has an internal coil. It operates at ~ 2 psig and the vapor takeoff is condensed with a spray condenser. Neither vessel is agitated. Raw material feed consists of a Ktron weigh belt feeder measuring PTA powder into a Readco paddle mixer to be mixed with meg to form a paste of about 1.1 mole ratio. Paste is pumped using a Moyno progressive cavity pump to the primary esterifier vessel. There are 2 systems for redundancy. This line can run at either 160 tpd or 300 tpd to feed either one or two Hitachi 160 tpd polymer lines. (2) HITACHI Polymerization Line(s), 160 metric tons per day: Controls are Foxboro IA DCS. Each Polymerization line consists of 3 vessels, a vertical jacketed Low Polymerizer vessel that is agitated with internal coils. Off gas from the process is pulled through a spray tower with a scraped condenser Vacuum from Graham steam ejectors with a vacuum pump for the final stage. There is a redundant installed spare vacuum system. Polymer is pumped from the LP by a Maag gear pump to an intermediate polymerizer which is a horizontal jacketed vessel with a single shaft with figure-8 shaped screens for exposing polymer surface area to vacuum. Off gas from the process is pulled through a spray tower with a scraped condenser Vacuum from Graham steam ejectors with a vacuum pump for the final stage. There is a redundant installed spare vacuum system. Polymer from the IP is transferred to the High Polymerizer by differential vacuum and elevation. The High Polymerizer vessel is a horizontal jacketed vessel with twin shafts with fiqure-8 shaped screens to maximize the generation of surface area exposed to vacuum. Off gas from the process is pulled through a spray tower with a scraped condenser Vacuum from Graham steam ejectors with a vacuum pump for the final stage. There is a redundant installed spare vacuum system. Discharge from the HP is through a Maag gear pump. All process surfaces are Stainless steel. All processes were operational and producing consistent high quality polymer at .59 to .63 IV until the shutdown about 5 years ago Scope of supply would include all process equipment, process piping, and process controls from paste feed to the discharge of the final gearpump. Documentation and spares are available. The lines were designed for Polyester but might be able to handle some PET variants. The process controls were upgraded in late 90s, early 2000. The esterification plant can be used with any polymer line that is within its' capacity.
